I tried both prozac and seroxat but found that neither of these worked for me. My counsellor told me about a new anti-depressant called Citalopram - this targets both anxiety and depression and worked wonders with me the first time I took it - I felt on top of the world. Unfortunately I came off it too quickly (after 4 months) as I assumed I was better and then relapsed so my advice is to give it a longer shot the first time as it is not as effective the second time round.
I would concur with the other comments re exercise - I find I really do have to force myself to get out of bed to do it, but once I have run for 10 minutes in the gym I feel a different person and it seems to last for the rest of the day. Perhaps we need a country-wide set of self-help groups which team up and go to the gym together? I would be up for this as it would make it much easier to have someone in the same boat to go with.
