Having been diagnosed with clinical depression 4 years ago I've been battling ever since! I started swimming and more recently running on a regular basis. Somebody told me that exercise has to be for at least half an hour in order to stimulate the endorphins. My low point is always early morning and I drag myself out of bed and run whatever the weather. I dont necessarily enjoy it, but I look forward to the shower, and breakfast which follow! More important, the black thoughts dissolve, and the improved feeling of well being lasts all day. A shorter ten minute run after work in the evening seems to 'top up' this improved mood. The exercise also helps me sleep better. And even after a series of wakeful nights, I dont feel half as 'shattered' during the day as I used to feel.
