Being grateful has been extremely helpful to me.
When I am feeling grateful for all the things in my life, i.e. companionship of my husband, a roof over my head, supportive friends, a garden to work in, a car (old, but it works!!) to get around in, library books and videos when I can concentrate and two lovely canine friends, it takes my mind away from the negativity.
My area of difficulty is getting off to sleep but have a doctor who is helping heaps.
I am presently "playing" with the negative thoughts and going back to see what pressures were around when I went into the depression (after my last child was born).
Also Solution focused therapy can help too.
