I'm sorry to hear you're having such a tough time. Firstly, you're NOT alone and it can be so hard to describe to other people how you feel. It can be really difficult for partners because they don't know what to do. But I suppose I was just as open as I could be with my boyfriend, even if that meant telling him that sometimes there will be nothing he can do because it just feels like it comes from inside and no one can change that.
But try www.depressionalliance.org as they run support groups and you might find one in your local area.
I should say to be open and honest with your friends, but I know that is hard and I haven't done it myself. I think that 'depression' really carries stigma for all of us and so we turn to each other, people we don't even know, instead of the closest people to us in our lives. You could maybe try talking to a friend who you think will understand and see how it goes.
But you aren't alone and these feelings that you have, other people feel similar things and go through similar things. Your boyfriend loves you and your friends care about you. Don't ever think otherwise.
Take care

Do you feel better now Abi? has it helped being open?
Lorna x

Hi Lorna,
Yes I think it does help being open about what you are going through. Sometimes it can be really hard to express it at all, but I have this thing with my boyfriend now where I can just say 'I'm feeling a bit funny' or 'I'm feeling irritable and I don't know why'. It's not that he understands how I feel at these times but at least he can make allowances and encourage me, I guess it's more that he has some idea of what I need from him at those times. It's like we've developed a code in a way. And yes, it does makes things easier because I don't have to explain myself to him, all I need to say is 'I'm feeling a bit funny' and he knows what I'm talking about.

I agree, it's such a miserable horrible illness.....
