Not all counsellors are created equal and I kept shopping until I found one that truly seemed to understand and felt I could trust. It made all the difference! Did eventually go on 20 mg Prozac and the symptoms completely dissapeared. There was an adjustment period as my body adapted to the medication, but after several months the side effects went away and life became much more enjoyable. Not to say I don't have an occasional bad day, but that mostly seems to be related to monthly hormone fluctuations.
Having experienced both now (depression and relief) I am able to identify the warning signs. After about 2 years I stopped taking the medication and got along fine for several years. This past spring the warnings started to resurface so began taking the medication regularly again. The medication makes a big difference, but needs to be accompanied by counselling for the greatest positive impact. Recently I've joined a depression support group and that is proving to be good therapy.
This website is great because knowing you are not alone, that there are others who truly understand, makes life more bearable.
