Case Study 850

Case Studies

I'm not sure whether I'm suffering from depression but I am finding life very difficult. Almost impossible actually. I am a journalist but was made redundant in January 09. My subject area was niche and is limiting - I only get interviews for jobs directly related to the subject matter I have written about before. Anyway I have spent eight months looking for a job. My mum was diagnosed three months ago with terminal lung cancer (she isn't a smoker) and is undergoing chemotherapy currently. Her prognosis is poor. My boyfriend suffers from mental illness - I had no idea of the extent of this until my mum was diagnosed. Since then he has been intolerable. There are 20 cigarette burns in the carpet, he was deliberately sick over himself and the bed a week or so ago and is aggressive and desultory. He can't sleep and keeps me awake. Sometimes I have no idea what he is talking about, and think he is brain damaged from substance abuse when he was younger. I had to move out of my flat when I was made redundant and so am living with him. He loses money often and goes missing regularly. He told me two weeks ago that he was raped when he was 17, which explains the madness to some extent but I could have done without knowing about it right now. He's kept it quiet for 17 years after all. He is acquaintances with the tramps and street drinkers in the neighbourhood. He isn't working either (jobs are scarce in the building trade). I also failed my driving test for the fourth bloody time yesterday. Oh and I can't have children - I'm 34. I am really, really pissed off...
