Fighting depression.

Once I thought I had it all
I thought my dreams would soon come true
I never thought again I'd fall
Ambitions crushed, my future too.
The shadows came so slow at first
They crept on stealth then pounced with glee
And fell to quench emotions thirst
By drowning it in misery.
The cunning darkness twisted thought
To feel it was reality
That pain and self destruction ought
To be the person that is me.
I felt the shame for I was weak
Pathetic in the black beasts grasp,
There was no way that I could speak
Of wishing each breath was my last.
Ten years he's haunted on and off
Each time he left I thought me freed
And smiled once more and went to laugh,
Forgotten soon, the hidden seed.
But this time I will not forget
I know the darkness sleeps inside,
So I will arm myself and yet
I'm scared I'll not survive the fight.
I will be strong, the first step's made,
I'm armed with truth, this can be said,
And knowing this I'll force it fade
Each time it rears its ugly head.
