It was a beautiful sunny summer day, the flowers were in full bloom and you could hear the birds chirping in the distance. Life is good I thought. It is the little things in life that really matter. Going to the park, riding a bike, eating ice cream and spending time with all your friends.

Every day throughout the summer some friends and I would get together and ride our bikes, we would take a little lunch and make a day of it. It is great to feel the summer wind blow through your hair and take in the fresh country air. As we were riding our bikes I noticed a young girl about our age always sitting by herself by the fence of where she lived. She looked so sad. Like she did not have a friend in the whole world. It bothered me to go by day after day and see the lost face of one of gods creations. No one should be alone, every one should have a friend. Friends are special gifts that last a life time. From what I hear this little girl had no friends because she was different from the other kids. Why I asked one day, why is she considered different. The question was answered by many. They said oh, she is always sad, very depressed, she seems miles away so no one wants to be around her. How truly sad I thought this was. I decided at that moment that I would try and do something to help this lost soul. I invited her to join us on our daily ride. She looked at me with big brown eyes and smiled, she just about jumped onto my bike. Can I really come along with all of you she said. You betcha I replied.

Sometimes when we go through life we will run into many people who will be suffering in silence and feel very lonely and isolated due to depression. I believe that depression can be cured if we reach out to those who need a kind word or a loving smile. Let them know that people care. Sometimes pills are not the answer. Sometimes all they need is to feel they are loved. Depression does not discriminate, it can happen to anyone. If you see someone who needs a helping hand, show them you care.
