STARLESS NIGHT
Every sound in the fields this starless night
Comes to my ears
The languid chime of far off churchbells ring only once
The distant rain moves closer, it passes us by
We are safe
Yet with night, the old dangers lurk
Over the hill, the dogs start barking
There is no moon out tonight, yet
There is light from within the clouds
The willow sways in the breeze,
outlined in dusk by ancient mountains
The wind slows, the rain stops
The owl hooting, falls silent
The entire universe watches us
The truth is whispered, will they move on
Back to the beginning, if you want to go back again
Where we wanted for nothing, desired nothing, feared nothing
And again, how many times to prove that we mean no harm, do not think now
For once is proof enough, if felt a thousand times repeated
The owl hoots, its back, we're back
The bell chimes once again
The dogs start barking
The rain starts
This is where we came from, who knows where we'll go
