British people work longer hours than pretty much anywhere else in Europe. Considering the amount of time we spend either in the office, or travelling to and from it, we should take a great deal more care than we do to ensure that the experience is as stress-free as possible. The things to remember here are basically common sense, but common sense tends to go out of the window where work is concerned.
Learn to say 'no'. Your life is more important than work, so there's nothing wrong with turning down additional work that would increase your stress levels and eat into your evenings and weekends. Try to work with people as much as possible, and (for those who have the option) don't spend every day working from home. Get into the office, even if it takes an hour or more and seems like a waste of time; it's not. Basically, be sensible. Ideally you should work during the day, then come home and forget about work until the next day. This can initially be difficult to accomplish, but it gets easier the more you try.
