If you're suffering from depression, people who don't understand the illness may suggest that you just 'pull yourself together' or 'snap out of it'. It's not that easy, of course, and dancing down the street chanting Monty Python's 'Always look on the bright side of life' is unlikely to stabilise your brain chemistry. There are, however, lots of things that you can do to alleviate some of the pain of depression. Not all of them will work for you, but many should help.
